Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

Suspected Fulani militias ambushed a group of young miners returning from work in Sabon Gari (Yilpo) community, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, on Thursday, killing one, injuring two others, and abducting one youth. The attack occurred around 3:55 p.m. along the Aloghom-Yilpo-Mwansat college axis.

The deceased was identified only as Kyenshak, according to Nandom Ishaku, a community youth leader who confirmed the incident to Daily Post on Friday. Ishaku said the victims were heading home from mining activities when they were ambushed. Two of the injured are receiving treatment at a local health facility for gunshot wounds, while the fate of the abducted youth remains unknown.

Ishaku expressed deep frustration that the community had raised early warnings with security agencies days before the attack, after the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association (GAFDAN), a Fulani socio-cultural group, issued a statement accusing local youths of attacking herders and stealing cattle. “We knew immediately that the statement was a precursor to an impending attack as that has been their modus operandi,” Ishaku said. “We went to the security agents to tell them but our complaint was ignored. And now, we have lost a vibrant youth.”

The youth leader’s account suggests a pattern in which public accusations by GAFDAN are followed by armed assaults on Berom farming and mining communities, a sequence that has been reported in previous cycles of violence across Plateau State. GAFDAN has repeatedly denied any involvement in or endorsement of attacks, while consistently accusing local defence militias of targeting Fulani herders and poisoning their cattle. No official statement had been issued by Plateau State authorities or security forces at the time of this briefing. The military’s Operation Safe Haven, which covers the Mangu area, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The attack is the latest in a string of violent incidents that have claimed hundreds of lives in Plateau’s Berom-majority communities since late 2025, according to local ethnic coalitions.
