Presidency Slams Aregbesola, Calls His Remarks "Hypocritical and Politically Motivated"

ABUJA | APRIL 15, 2026

The Presidency has strongly criticized former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola over his comments on the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) national convention.

In a statement, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga described Aregbesola's remarks as "hypocritical and politically motivated." He questioned Aregbesola's record in office, citing challenges during his time as governor of Osun State and as a minister under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Presidency also dismissed the ADC as lacking a clear agenda for Nigerians. Onanuga defended the government's policies, stating that measures have been introduced to ease economic hardship and improve security.

He noted that the administration is investing in security operations and working with intelligence agencies to address threats. "The government's Renewed Hope agenda is yielding results," the statement added, urging Nigerians to disregard what it called "misleading narratives".
