Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have secured their place at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, advancing on aggregate despite a narrow defeat to Malawi in the final round of the African qualifiers.

The Falconets entered the return leg with a comfortable cushion after earlier dominant wins over Rwanda (5-0) and Senegal (3-1). They lost the second leg against Malawi, but their aggregate advantage was sufficient to see them through to the global tournament, which will feature the world’s best young talents.

The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed the qualification on Sunday and congratulated the team. Head coach Chris Danjuma praised his players for their resilience throughout the campaign and said the focus would now shift to preparing for the World Cup.

“Qualification is the first objective. Now we work to ensure that the team is ready to compete at the highest level. The Falconets have a proud history in this tournament, and we want to build on that,” Danjuma said.

Nigeria’s Falconets are among the most decorated teams in U-20 women’s football, having finished as runners-up at the World Cup on two occasions and reached the semi-finals multiple times.
