Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

Panic has gripped residents of Kwara State after armed bandits launched coordinated attacks on several communities, killing one person and abducting an unspecified number of residents.

The attacks occurred late Thursday night, June 11, targeting Gaa‑Alla and Gaa‑Oke Abba communities in Isin Local Government Area, as well as Famole community in neighbouring Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed that two residents were abducted in Gaa‑Alla. He stated that the police, military, and local forest guards have launched a manhunt for the abductors and are combing surrounding forests.

In Famole community, one person was killed during an exchange of gunfire when residents confronted the gunmen. The victim was identified as a local farmer. Several others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at a nearby health facility.

The attacks have heightened concerns in communities bordering forested areas where criminal gangs have increasingly carried out kidnappings and other violent crimes. Residents have called on the government to deploy more security personnel to the area.

"We cannot continue to live in fear. These bandits come and go as they please. We need a permanent security post," a community elder told Prime Brief Media.

Security agencies have intensified efforts to rescue those abducted and strengthen surveillance across vulnerable communities. The police have also urged residents to provide credible information that could assist in apprehending the suspects.
