DSS Rejects Foreign Funding For Security Trust Fund

Abuja, Nigeria

The Department of State Services (DSS) has cautioned lawmakers against allowing foreign organisations to contribute financially to a proposed Security Trust Fund for the agency, arguing that such arrangements could compromise intelligence operations, weaken institutional independence, and expose sensitive national security activities to outside influence.

The DSS's position comes as the House of Representatives considers a Bill for an Act to Establish the Department of State Services Trust Fund, which aims to provide sustainable funding for the agency's operations.

The agency warned that foreign funding could create dependencies that undermine Nigeria's ability to conduct independent intelligence operations and protect its national security interests.
