Ekiti State Governor has paid N1.45 billion in compensation for land acquisition, as part of efforts to accelerate development projects in the state.
The compensation payment covers land acquired for various development projects across the state, including road construction, housing schemes, and industrial parks.
The governor assured that the compensation would reach the rightful beneficiaries and that the process would be transparent.
"The payment of compensation is a demonstration of our commitment to fairness and justice," the governor said. "We are determined to ensure that landowners are adequately compensated for their property."
The governor acknowledged that land acquisition and compensation have been contentious issues in the state, with some landowners complaining of delays in payment.
He assured that the government is committed to addressing the concerns and ensuring that no one is left behind.
He urged beneficiaries to cooperate with the government and to support development projects in the state.
Efforts to reach the state Commissioner for Lands and Housing for comments were unsuccessful.
