Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

The Enugu State Government has announced the arrest of six suspected criminals linked to major security breaches and the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition during joint security operations.

Governor Peter Mbah inspected the recovered weapons at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Enugu on Friday. The haul includes 17 AK‑47 rifles, one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), one rocket‑propelled rifle, two hand grenades, and 1,071 rounds of ammunition.

Security operatives also recovered military‑style uniforms, including 10 pairs of trousers, eight T‑shirts, and four lanyards. Some of the suspects had been on the state's security watch list and were allegedly involved in attacks that claimed the lives of security personnel.

Governor Mbah described the operation as a "major breakthrough," noting that some suspects had been on the run since December last year. He commended the security agencies for their professionalism and urged them to sustain the momentum.

"This is a clear message that Enugu State will not be a safe haven for criminals. We will continue to support our security forces to ensure that every criminal is apprehended," Mbah said.

The governor also warned criminals to leave Enugu State or face consequences, while cautioning landlords to conduct proper background checks on tenants to avoid harbouring criminals.

The DSS and police have launched further investigations to uncover the network behind the weapons.
