June 20, 2026 – Abuja, Nigeria
The Federal Government is considering a new initiative that would allow journalists to accompany military personnel during selected operations to improve security reporting and give the public greater insight into counterinsurgency and other internal security efforts.
The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa, disclosed the plan at an event in Abuja.
The proposal has drawn mixed reactions, with some arguing it would bring transparency and accountability to military operations, while others worry about the safety of journalists and the potential for compromising tactical information.
The plan is still in its early stages, and consultations are ongoing with media stakeholders.
