Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

The Nasarawa State Government has dismissed as "false, malicious and baseless" allegations by Labour Party senatorial candidate Labaran Maku of a plot to rig the June 20 by‑election.

Maku had alleged that nine electoral wards had been marked for manipulation and that Governor Abdullahi Sule was collaborating with security agencies ahead of the poll. He called on the international community to monitor the election.

Governor Sule's Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs said: "Government hereby rejects the shameful allegation in its entirety. These claims are not only political grandstanding but also the product of a candidate rattled by his own poor standing among the electorate."

The state government insisted that Governor Sule has never directed or facilitated interference in any election conducted during his administration. "The governor believes in the sanctity of the ballot and has always allowed the people to freely choose their leaders," the aide added.

The by‑election, scheduled for June 20, will fill the vacant Nasarawa North Senatorial seat. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured that all necessary arrangements have been made for a credible poll.

Maku, a former Minister of Information, is one of the leading candidates in the race. His allegations have raised tensions in the state, but the government has called on him to provide evidence or retract his claims.
