MAKURDI, BENUE STATE — The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) has convened a high-level security stakeholders' meeting in Makurdi as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration among security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and other critical stakeholders in tackling insecurity across Benue State.
The meeting comes amid renewed security concerns in several parts of the state, particularly following recent attacks in Otukpo, Ohimini and other communities that have resulted in deaths, displacement and destruction of property.
Addressing participants, the AIG stressed the importance of intelligence sharing, community policing and stronger cooperation between security agencies and local communities to prevent crime and respond swiftly to emerging threats.
He urged residents to provide credible information that would assist security agencies in identifying criminal elements operating within their communities.
Security stakeholders at the meeting also discussed strategies for improving early warning systems, strengthening public confidence in law enforcement and enhancing coordinated responses to security challenges.
The gathering was attended by representatives of the military, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), traditional institutions, religious leaders and community-based organisations.
Analysts say such engagements are increasingly important as Benue continues to confront attacks on farming communities, kidnapping and other security threats affecting livelihoods and agricultural production.
