Suspected bandits have attacked Government Secondary School, Opada-Olowa in Kogi State, abducting the principal, a NECO supervisor and four students during an ongoing examination.
DEKINA, KOGI STATE — Suspected bandits on Tuesday attacked Government Secondary School, Opada-Olowa, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, abducting the school principal, a National Examinations Council (NECO) supervisor and four students during an ongoing examination.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 2 p.m. while candidates were writing their NECO papers, throwing the school into panic as gunmen invaded the premises.
Witnesses said students and staff scampered for safety as the attackers stormed the school and whisked away the victims before fleeing the area.
The identities of the abducted principal, the NECO supervisor and the affected students had not been officially released as of the time of filing this report.
The attack has heightened concerns over the safety of schools and examination centres, particularly in communities vulnerable to kidnapping and other violent crimes.
Parents and residents are said to be deeply worried, with many calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and strengthen protection around schools.
The incident also raises fresh questions about the security arrangements for candidates sitting national examinations in parts of the country affected by insecurity.
As of press time, the Kogi State Government, the Kogi State Police Command and NECO had not issued official statements regarding the attack or the status of rescue efforts.
Security agencies are expected to launch an operation to track down the abductors and secure the release of those taken.
Prime Brief Media will continue to monitor the situation and provide verified updates as more information becomes available.
