MAKURDI, BENUE STATE — The Benue State Government says it has constructed more than 140 rural bridges and culverts under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), in a major push to improve transportation, expand market access and strengthen agricultural productivity across the state.
The infrastructure projects are designed to reconnect rural communities that have long struggled with poor road networks, particularly during the rainy season when many farming areas become inaccessible.
According to the state government, the completed bridges and culverts are already making it easier for farmers to transport produce from rural communities to urban markets.
For years, inadequate infrastructure has been identified as one of the biggest obstacles facing agriculture in Benue, often resulting in high transportation costs, post-harvest losses and reduced incomes for rural farmers.
