The Benue State Government, through the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (Benue SEMA), has continued the distribution of food baskets donated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) to internally displaced persons (IDPs) across the state.
The distribution exercise, which commenced after its official flag-off on July 8, is being carried out in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), targeting vulnerable households affected by displacement due to insecurity.
On the latest phase of the exercise, relief materials were distributed to displaced families at Ortese and Daudu II IDP camps in Guma Local Government Area, with officials overseeing the process to ensure orderly and transparent distribution.
According to Benue SEMA, each beneficiary household receives a food basket weighing approximately 60 kilograms, containing staple food items including rice, beans, Masa Vita flour, vegetable oil, salt, tomato paste and assorted seasonings.
The agency disclosed that a total of 6,403 vulnerable households across Mega Camp, Abagena, Daudu II, Ortese, Ichwa and International Market Camp are expected to benefit from the humanitarian intervention.
Benue SEMA said its monitoring team, led by Dr. Donald Komgbenda, supervised the exercise to ensure transparency, accountability and prevent diversion of the relief materials.
The food distribution forms part of ongoing humanitarian efforts by the Benue State Government and its development partners to provide relief for thousands of displaced families affected by recurring attacks and displacement across the state.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that relief materials reach the intended beneficiaries while appreciating KSrelief, NEMA and other humanitarian partners for supporting vulnerable communities in Benue.
