Several people have reportedly been killed and others injured following a midnight attack on Sai Community in Mbagir District of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack, which occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, was reportedly carried out by armed men whom local residents identified as suspected Fulani herdsmen.
Prime Brief Media has not independently verified the identity of the attackers, and security agencies had yet to issue an official statement as of the time of publication.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers stormed the community under the cover of darkness, moving from house to house while firing indiscriminately at residents.
The gunfire forced many villagers to flee into nearby bushes in search of safety, while several others sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to hospitals for treatment.
A survivor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the attack as terrifying.
"They came into the village and started shooting from house to house," the witness said.
The exact number of those killed and injured had not been officially confirmed at the time of filing this report.
Security agencies had not released a statement on the incident, and efforts to obtain official confirmation of the casualty figures were still ongoing.
