NIPSS Director General Prof. Ayo Omotayo has apologised to the Berom Nation over remarks made after the attempted attack on the institute and appealed for calm as investigations continue.

The Director General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Prof. Ayo Omotayo, has expressed regret over remarks he made during a recent television interview following the attempted attack on the institute, apologising to the Berom Nation and appealing for calm.
In a letter dated Monday, July 6, 2026, addressed to the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, His Royal Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, the NIPSS Director General clarified that his comments were made while responding to questions during a rapidly evolving security situation.
Prof. Omotayo explained that he merely referred to reports and speculations already circulating in the public domain and did not intend to attribute responsibility for the attempted attack to the Berom people or suggest the existence of any organised militia linked to the Berom Nation.
He conveyed his sincere apologies for the unintended offence and distress his remarks may have caused and appealed to the traditional ruler to convey his message of goodwill and reconciliation to the Berom people.
The Director General reaffirmed his respect for the Berom Nation, describing the community as one of the institute's principal hosts and a longstanding partner in promoting peace and national development.
He noted that NIPSS has maintained a cordial relationship with the Berom community over the years, built on trust, cooperation and mutual respect.
Prof. Omotayo also highlighted several community-focused initiatives introduced under his leadership, including annual summer coaching programmes for students, ICT and digital skills training for youths, mentorship programmes in selected secondary schools, support for girl-child education and community development projects.
According to him, the programmes reflect the institute's belief that the wellbeing of its host communities is closely tied to the success and stability of NIPSS.
The Director General urged all stakeholders to remain calm, exercise restraint and avoid actions or statements capable of escalating tensions while security agencies continue investigations into the attempted attack on the institute.
He reiterated NIPSS' commitment to peaceful coexistence, constructive engagement with host communities and support for initiatives that promote unity, security and sustainable development.
