Suspected gunmen have killed a retired Nigerian Army officer and abducted a woman during a midnight attack on a residential community along the Nasarawa–FCT border.

A retired Nigerian Army officer has been killed while attempting to rescue a kidnapped woman during a midnight attack by suspected gunmen on a residential community along the Nasarawa–Federal Capital Territory (FCT) border.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 12:45 a.m. on Friday at Plot 038, PGC Community, near Jikwoyi, an area straddling the Nasarawa–FCT boundary.
According to security reports, the attackers invaded the residence of Silas Orite, 46, and abducted his wife, Bukola Oluwatoyin Silas, 40, before fleeing to an unknown destination.
The deceased, identified as Master Warrant Officer Reuben Yelwa (Rtd.), aged 61, was the Community Chief Security Officer and a retired member of the Nigerian Army.
Reports indicate that Yelwa responded after receiving information about the attack and attempted to assist the victims.
However, he was reportedly shot by the assailants during the rescue effort and died from his injuries.
His death has sparked renewed concerns over the increasing insecurity affecting communities located along the Nasarawa–FCT corridor.
Security operatives were said to have visited the scene shortly after the attack to document evidence and commence investigations.
Authorities have also intensified efforts to rescue the abducted woman while tracking those responsible for the attack.
According to security sources, area domination patrols have been strengthened around the affected community to deter further criminal activities and reassure residents.
The latest attack adds to a series of kidnapping and violent crime incidents reported in communities bordering the Federal Capital Territory.
Residents have repeatedly called for increased security patrols, improved intelligence gathering, and stronger collaboration between security agencies in Nasarawa State and the FCT to tackle criminal gangs operating across the border.
Security analysts note that the proximity of several rural settlements to Abuja has made the corridor attractive to kidnappers who exploit isolated communities and difficult terrain.
While investigations continue, residents have been advised to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies.
As of the time of publication, the Nasarawa State Police Command had not issued a separate official statement on the incident.
