NASARAWA, NASARAWA STATE – July 2, 2026
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday commissioned a lithium processing plant with a production capacity of 6,000 metric tonnes per day at Endo Community in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The President was represented at the commissioning ceremony by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who joined Governor Abdullahi A. Sule and other senior government officials to inaugurate the facility.
The lithium processing plant is expected to strengthen Nigeria's drive toward value addition in the solid minerals sector by processing locally mined lithium for industrial use rather than exporting raw minerals.
The project aligns with the Federal Government's efforts to diversify the economy, attract foreign investment, create jobs, and expand Nigeria's position in the global critical minerals value chain.
Among the dignitaries present were the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake; Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe; the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Yu Dunhai; Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada; Senator Halilu Envulanza; and the Minister of Women Affairs, Princess Margaret Elayo.
Also in attendance were members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers, captains of industry, commissioners, and other stakeholders from within and outside Nasarawa State.
The commissioning marks another milestone in the Federal Government's efforts to encourage local mineral beneficiation and industrial development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Industry experts say increased investment in lithium processing could position Nigeria as a key player in the global supply chain for electric vehicle batteries, renewable energy storage systems, and other clean energy technologies.
