GOTHENBURG, Sweden — The University of Gothenburg is inviting applications for a fully funded four-year doctoral position in Medical Science, offering researchers an opportunity to contribute to the development of safer and more personalized treatment strategies for prostate cancer patients.
The PhD position is hosted by the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, Department of Pharmacology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy and will focus on personalizing the combined use of Androgen Receptor Pathway Inhibitors (ARPIs) and Direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOACs) in patients with prostate cancer.

Research Focus
Many prostate cancer patients receiving modern ARPI therapies also require DOACs to reduce the risk of stroke and other blood-clotting complications. However, interactions between these medications can affect treatment safety and effectiveness.
The doctoral research seeks to develop precision dosing strategies that enable the safe co-administration of these medicines through a combination of laboratory experiments, clinical research, and pharmacometric modelling.
The project is divided into four major research areas:
- Development of advanced bioanalytical methods
- In vitro drug metabolism studies
- Clinical pharmacokinetic investigations
- Population pharmacokinetic (PK) modelling
Researchers will work toward improving personalized treatment for older cancer patients managing multiple medications.
Who Can Apply?
The university is seeking applicants who possess:
- A completed Master's degree (or equivalent second-cycle qualification)
- Academic background in pharmacology, biomedical sciences, clinical research, pharmacy, medicine, or related disciplines
- Experience in scientific writing through theses or published research
- English language proficiency equivalent to English B/6
- Interest in translational research involving laboratory science, clinical studies, and pharmacometrics
