The Kwara State Government confirms the release of all 176 people abducted in the February 2026 attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama LGA, months after the deadly raid.
Kaiama, Kwara State — August 5, 2026
The Kwara State Government has announced that all 176 people abducted during a deadly attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area have regained their freedom, months after the February 3, 2026 raid that shook the state.
The development was confirmed on Wednesday in a statement posted on the Kwara State Government's official Facebook page, which credited President Bola Tinubu, security forces, and everyone involved in securing the victims' release.
The victims were abducted when suspected Boko Haram-linked extremists stormed the rural communities on motorcycles in a coordinated assault that reportedly lasted several hours.
The attack is regarded as one of the deadliest in the state's history, having claimed more than 200 lives, left many others injured, destroyed homes and businesses, and forced residents to flee the area.
Local vigilantes who attempted to resist the attackers were reportedly overpowered, with some allegedly trapped and burned inside their office during the assault.
The circumstances surrounding the victims' release — including how and when it occurred — had not been disclosed as of the time of the government's announcement. Kwara authorities indicated that further details would follow.
The abductions had previously drawn public concern, including calls from religious and civic groups urging the federal government to intensify efforts to rescue the victims, months after the attack first made headlines.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
