Army Kills Bandit, Recovers AK-47 After Foiling Ambush in Plateau's Langtang North

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace kill a suspected bandit and recover an AK-47 after gang members ambushed them during a weapons-recovery operation in Nwur village, Langtang North LGA, Plateau State.

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have foiled an ambush by suspected bandits during a follow-up operation in Nwur village, Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing one attacker in the process and recovering an AK-47 rifle with ammunition.

According to a statement from the Nigerian Army, the operation began after a previously arrested bandit confessed to involvement in criminal activities in the area and agreed to lead troops to a weapon he claimed to have concealed in Nwur village. 

Acting on that confession, soldiers escorted the suspect to the location to retrieve the hidden rifle.

As the troops approached the suspected hideout, members of the criminal syndicate reportedly opened fire on them in an apparent ambush. 

The soldiers responded with what the Army described as superior firepower, neutralising one of the attackers in the ensuing exchange of gunfire. The arrested suspect who had led troops to the scene was also killed during the crossfire.

Troops subsequently recovered the AK-47 rifle and its ammunition from the location, bringing the operation to a close. The Army did not disclose whether any of its personnel sustained injuries during the exchange.

The incident adds to a string of recent operations by Operation Enduring Peace across Plateau State, which has recorded a mix of arrests, weapons recoveries, and clashes with armed groups in Langtang North and neighboring LGAs in recent weeks. 

The Army has continued to describe such follow-up, intelligence-led operations, in which arrested suspects lead troops to concealed weapons or hideouts, as a key part of its strategy for degrading local criminal networks operating in the state.

As of this report, no further details had been released regarding the identity of the slain attacker or the wider network he was allegedly linked to.
