Rt. Hon. Peter Ajang Azi, a former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, has died. According to a statement issued by his family, Azi passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
The announcement, signed by John Daniel Azi on behalf of the family, described the former Speaker as having quietly gone to be with his Maker, and asked for continued prayers for the family during this period of loss. The family said full burial arrangements would be communicated in due course.
Azi was elected Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly in June 2015 and held the position until July 2018, a tenure that placed him at the helm of the state legislature during a notable period in Plateau's political history.
