The Plateau State Government says a widely reported ₦10.11 billion travel and transport figure for H1 2026 covers the entire public service, not Governor Mutfwang's personal travels, which totaled just three foreign trips.

The Plateau State Government has moved to clarify widely circulated reports citing ₦10.11 billion as the state's travel and transport expenditure for the first six months of 2026, insisting the figure does not represent spending by Governor Caleb Mutfwang or Government House alone.
In a statement signed by Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the government said the reported sum reflects aggregate expenditure across the entire Plateau State public service, spanning Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), tertiary institutions, the Judiciary, the State House of Assembly, and statutory personnel-related entitlements.
According to the government, the largest components of the ₦10.11 billion included the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, leave passage entitlements for public servants, and training-related travel across various MDAs. Other listed items included the overseas training of Plateau State University lecturers, the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, judiciary-related travel, and approved official travel expenses for the State Assembly.
The government also disclosed that the funds covered sponsorship for 200 students on scholarship to India, medical assistance for citizens receiving treatment abroad, and other official state engagements.
Addressing Governor Mutfwang's personal travel specifically, the government said he undertook just three international trips between January and June 2026: a visit to the United States in January for the Presidential Prayer Breakfast, a trip to the United Kingdom in March as part of the President's official delegation, and a second UK visit in June for an international dialogue on multi-faith coexistence.
The government said these trips created opportunities to pursue partnerships and investment prospects in tourism and other sectors central to Plateau's development.
The government further stated that the Mutfwang administration places strong emphasis on the training and retraining of public servants as part of efforts to close manpower gaps, strengthen institutions, and improve service delivery framing much of the disputed expenditure as an investment in institutional capacity rather than discretionary travel spending.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public resources, pledging to continue providing information on its expenditures and financial activities as public interest in the figure persists.
The clarification comes as Plateau State continues to navigate a demanding year marked by a mass-casualty security crisis in Mangu LGA and a strike by university lecturers at Plateau State University developments that have kept public spending and government accountability under close scrutiny.
