BARKIN LADI, PLATEAU STATE — Suspected Fulani militants reportedly killed the son of a pastor of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) during a late-night attack on Kuk village in Gashish District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to local sources, the attackers, said to be between three and five armed men, stormed the residence of the pastor on Saturday night and opened fire for several minutes after forcibly entering the house.
The pastor's son was fatally shot during the attack, while other members of the family narrowly escaped.
Residents said the swift intervention of local civilian guards prevented further casualties, as the guards reportedly engaged the attackers in a gun battle and forced them to flee before soldiers arrived from a military base located about three miles away.
The assailants reportedly escaped before security operatives reached the scene.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had not issued an official statement on the incident, and the exact circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear.
The latest incident has heightened fears among residents of Barkin Ladi, one of the areas in Plateau State that has witnessed recurring attacks and communal violence in recent years.
