A faction of Benue's APC calls on Governor Alia to apologise to Peter Obi and President Tinubu over the Yelwata convoy blockade, warning the incident risks bringing the party into disrepute.
Makurdi, Benue State — September 2026
A faction within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to issue a formal apology to NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi, President Bola Tinubu, and the people of Benue over the blockade of Obi's convoy earlier this month, which prevented him from reaching Yelwata to visit victims of last year's killings.
The faction condemned the incident as conduct "capable of bringing the party into disrepute," a notably sharp rebuke from within the governor's own political party rather than from opposition ranks.
The demand adds an unusual internal dimension to the fallout from the blockade, which has already drawn condemnation from Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo, former Bayelsa Governor Seriake Dickson,
and the Allied Peoples Movement, alongside competing allegations between Obi's camp, which has pointed to a government aide's involvement, and the Benue State Government, which has denied any knowledge of or involvement in the incident.
