Soldiers have arrested three men following the killing of 17-year-old Peter Gyang in an isolated attack by unidentified assailants at Kafi-Abu village, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The arrests followed a military operation on Saturday, after troops of Sector 4, Sub-Sector 41 received intelligence on the killing and raided Kedawa, a settlement identified as a possible route the attackers used to access Kafi-Abu and escape afterward.
Three men, identified as Yakubu Jaoji, 69, Mukadas Abubakar, 28, and Muhammad Hassan, 56 were taken into custody for profiling and further investigation to determine any connection to Gyang's killing. The military was careful to note the suspects have not been established as the perpetrators, with investigations still underway.
The Kafi-Abu arrests were among a wider wave of security operations across Plateau last week, which saw at least 10 people killed in separate attacks and at least 22 suspects arrested in total, including five suspected criminals detained during a raid on known hideouts in Jos East on September 7, followed by 14 more suspects arrested in a separate operation the next day.
The scale of both the violence and the security response last week prompted a personal visit from the GOC of 3 Division to affected Plateau communities.
