Three vigilantes were killed at around 7:49 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kyikyau-Gyambwas boundary in Mangu Halle District, Mangu LGA, while keeping watch over their community, despite the dusk-to-dawn curfew Governor Caleb Mutfwang imposed on the area just two days earlier.
The victims were identified as Samson Dachet, 45, Gambo Fwangyil, 50, and Zughumnan Bamaiyi, 35. Security sources said attackers opened fire on the vigilantes, killing them on the spot. Troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace, were deployed following the incident, but the assailants had already fled.
That vigilantes were killed within curfew hours, in the very LGA the restriction was meant to protect, underscores how difficult containing the violence has proven, a concern this outlet flagged when the ambush on Operation Rainbow's deputy commander occurred just a day after the curfew took effect.
