4 Killed in Benue Raid; Reprisal Kills 20 Cattles

GUMA, Nigeria – Suspected armed herders killed four people and wounded one more during a predawn raid on Agber-Chicha village in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, according to local authorities.

The attack occurred around 2:00 a.m. on April 7, 2026, when assailants opened fire on residents. Security forces responded to distress calls, recovering the bodies to a nearby hospital and taking the injured victim to General Hospital in Gbajimba.

Following the assault, grieving relatives launched a reprisal attack on a nearby herders’ settlement in Imande, killing approximately 20 cattle, a security source confirmed.

“Our officers arrived promptly, but locals had already retaliated. The situation remains tense,” the source said.

The incident underscores persistent cycles of violence between herder and farming communities in Benue State.
