LAND DISPUTE TURNS DEADLY IN GBAA-IFI AS ARMED ASSAILANTS ATTACK GBAJIMBA COMMUNITY IN GUMA LGA

GBAJIMBA, BENUE STATE — By Prime Brief Media

Panic and confusion have gripped Gbajimba, the headquarters of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, following a late-night attack by suspected armed men allegedly linked to the lingering Gbaa-Ifi land dispute.

According to a report by Benue Info, the incident occurred at about 10 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026, when gun-wielding assailants stormed parts of the community, sending residents fleeing for safety. The attackers moved in what eyewitnesses described as a coordinated manner, targeting specific locations and individuals.

Sources within the community alleged that the attackers were affiliated with the Unyande group and operated under the leadership of one Senti, popularly known as "Ghana U." The group is believed to be a party to the protracted dispute over the ownership and control of Gbaa-Ifi, a contested area that has remained a flashpoint for communal tension.

In one particularly shocking incident, a resident was reportedly attacked with arrows, locally referred to as Igba-Akula Adugh, in what appeared to be a calculated attempt on his life. The victim's condition could not be immediately confirmed as of the time of filing this report.

"This is becoming unbearable. People can no longer sleep with both eyes closed," a local resident who pleaded anonymity told Benue Info.

The attack has heightened fears in Gbajimba, a community already on edge due to the unresolved land dispute. Residents described the assault as devastating and called for urgent intervention from security agencies to forestall further bloodshed.

As of press time, there was no official confirmation from security agencies regarding the attack or any arrests made.

The latest incident adds to growing concerns over recurring communal clashes in parts of Benue State, where unresolved land disputes have continued to trigger violence, displacement, and loss of livelihoods. Guma Local Government Area has been one of the areas most affected by farmer-herder violence and inter-communal tensions in recent years.

Prime Brief Media continues to monitor the situation in Gbajimba and will provide updates as more information becomes available regarding the condition of the injured resident and any security response to the attack.
