The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) has accused the Miyetti Allah Cattle
Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Plateau State of attempting to
shield a suspect arrested following the April 5 attack on Pwomol Village, which
killed two people and destroyed property.
The suspect, identified as Suleiman, a Fulani
man, was apprehended by a local vigilante group and handed over to security
forces.
In a statement issued April 9, BYM National
President Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri alleged that MACBAN is seeking to
obtain a forged medical certificate claiming the suspect is mentally unstable.
According to the BYM, the purported plan is to present the certificate to the
Special Task Force (Operation Enduring Peace) to pressure authorities to
release the suspect.
“The Association wishes to state clearly that
any such attempt must be rejected outright,” Mwantiri said. He added that the
suspect had provided detailed information about the attack in a community where
he does not reside, making any sudden claim of mental incapacity questionable.
The BYM warned that any interference in the
investigation would “send a disturbing signal to the international community
that powerful interests may be working to undermine justice.”
MACBAN and security officials had not issued an immediate response to the allegations at the time of reporting.
