Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

 

BOKKOS, Nigeria – Gunmen killed at least eight people, most from the same family, during a late-night attack on Mbwelle village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State on April 9, 2026, according to local sources.

The attack occurred around 11:00 p.m., when assailants stormed the village and opened fire on residents, leaving several others injured and some individuals unaccounted for.

The deceased were identified as Elder Iliya Mangut Dakus, Mr. Luck Titus Dakus, Mr. Habila Istifanu Dakus, Mr. Hassan Istifanus Dakus, Mrs. Hassan Moses Dakus, Biggie Lucky Dakus, Sunday Gideon Dakus, and Mr. Innocent Barnabas Makwin.

Kefas Mallai, Chairman of the Community Peace Observers in Bokkos LGA, confirmed the incident, stating: “The attack lasted for several hours with no visible security presence to repel the attackers.”

Christopher Luka, Youth Leader of Bokkos, described the assault as “a sad and devastating assault” and noted that the gunmen targeted one family predominantly. He added that some residents remain unaccounted for.

Efforts to reach Plateau State Police Command spokesman DSP Alfred Alabo were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

The attack follows a deadly Palm Sunday assault on March 29, 2026, in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, which killed dozens of residents and students and prompted a government-imposed curfew and military operations.
