Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

The Nigerian Senate has ordered a comprehensive investigation into renewed attacks on communities in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, directing the National Emergency Management Agency to deliver immediate relief to residents displaced by the violence.

The resolution followed a motion moved during plenary on Tuesday, April 29, 2026, highlighting the deteriorating security situation in communities along the Benue River valley. Lawmakers were told that gunmen on motorcycles had attacked Kwa, Gyakan, Rigange, Waduku, and Tchobo villages, leaving a trail of destruction, deaths, and displacement.

Senators expressed grave concern over the recurring nature of the attacks, noting that many of the affected communities had previously enjoyed relative peace. The chamber resolved that the relevant security committees should investigate the root causes of the violence and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences.

NEMA has been given a directive to immediately deploy assessment teams and deliver food, shelter materials, and medical supplies to the displaced populations, many of whom are reportedly taking refuge in temporary camps and host communities.

Adamawa State, located in Nigeria's North-East, has faced multiple security challenges including insurgency spillover, farmer-herder clashes, and banditry. The latest attacks in Lamurde add to the growing list of security concerns confronting the region.
