The African Democratic Congress is holding its presidential primary today, with three aspirants competing for the party's ticket across 8,089 wards in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The aspirants, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and businessman and former presidential candidate Mohammed Hayatu-Deen have all expressed confidence of victory. The primary is being conducted as a direct election, meaning all registered party members are eligible to vote.
Atiku, who joined the ADC after leaving the PDP, is seen as the frontrunner, but Amaechi has mounted an energetic campaign, particularly in the South-South and South-East. Hayatu-Deen has positioned himself as the consensus builder and has warned that the ADC must present a credible candidate to challenge the APC and PDP in 2027.
ADC National Chairman Senator David Mark, while monitoring the exercise, urged all aspirants and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully. "The ADC is committed to internal democracy. We will respect the will of our members," Mark said.
Results from the wards are expected to be collated at the party's national secretariat, with the winner announced later today or Tuesday.
