President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, 21 May 2026, appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), ushering in a generational shift at the helm of one of Nigeria's most critical educational institutions. At just 39, Professor Aina attained the rank of Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, making him one of the youngest professors in his field in Nigeria. At OAU, he teaches courses in Computer Architecture, Real-Time Systems, Digital Signal Processing, and Advanced Computer Architecture. Colleagues credit his rapid rise to a combination of strong research output, institutional leadership, mentorship, and a commitment to connecting academic knowledge with real-world solutions. In what is perhaps the most remarkable aspect of his appointment, Professor Aina's relationship with JAMB began during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, where he served as a corps member within the examination body. During that period, he gained firsthand exposure to the mechanics of admissions processing, data management systems, and examination administration. The Presidency noted that these early experiences shaped his later contributions to examination reform and technology-driven optimisation. He now returns to lead the same institution where he cut his professional teeth, in a journey that has come full circle.
EXAMINATION SYSTEMS EXPERT: 15 Years of Consulting
With over 15 years of post-graduation professional experience, Professor Aina has built a career operating at the intersection of technology, policy, and institutional transformation. He has served as a consultant to major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and various State Ministries of Education in Osun and Ondo states. His consultancy work has covered ICT systems deployment, examination integrity frameworks, digital process optimisation, and operational reforms. He has also advised federal and state governments on system design, digital transition, and institutional reform.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP: Beyond Academia
Professor Aina is not solely confined to the ivory tower. In 2010, he co-founded Fluid Click Solutions Limited, an IT services and engineering project management company focused on technology-driven solutions across multiple sectors, including Education Technology (EduTech), agriculture, hospitality, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
