Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

Military authorities have detained more than 10 soldiers at the Nigerian Army's Counter Intelligence Corps facility in an intensified crackdown over leaked information regarding the detention of social media critic Chidiebere Mark, widely known by his online alias Justice Crack.

Sources within the military, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media, told Prime Brief Media that the detained soldiers are being interrogated over the unauthorized release of details surrounding Mark's arrest and subsequent handover to civil authorities. The arrests occurred over the past 48 hours, with soldiers drawn from multiple units.

Mark was arrested by Army personnel last week and later handed over to civil authorities for investigation after he posted a viral video making claims about poor welfare conditions and inadequate equipment for troops deployed to frontline operations. The Army described the video as capable of subverting discipline and national security.

The latest detentions signal the military high command's determination to root out internal sources of unauthorised disclosures to the media and civil society organisations. A senior officer who spoke on condition of strict anonymity described the leaks as "a serious breach of operational security and discipline."

"Counter-intelligence operations are standard procedure when classified or sensitive information finds its way into the public domain. The Army has a duty to protect its operational integrity," the officer said.

Human rights groups and media freedom organizations have expressed concern over the widening scope of detentions, calling for transparency and due process in the treatment of both Mark and the detained soldiers. The military has not issued an official statement on the latest detentions.
