Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

Defence Minister General Christopher Musa has described terrorism as the most complex and adaptive security threat confronting Nigeria, requiring an equally adaptive, multi-dimensional response from the state and society.

The minister made the remarks on Friday at the public presentation of a two-volume publication chronicling Nigeria's counterterrorism experience. He said terrorism, unlike conventional crime or even banditry, is ideologically driven, well-funded, and increasingly transnational in its operations.

"Terrorism is not just a military problem. It is an ideological, economic, and social challenge. The terrorists exploit poverty, illiteracy, and governance gaps. We are confronting them on the battlefield, but we must also win the war of ideas and development. This is our most complex national security threat," General Musa said.

He called for stronger collaboration between the military, intelligence agencies, the judiciary, religious institutions, and civil society to degrade the ideological appeal of extremist groups. The two volumes unveiled document Nigeria's counterterrorism operations from the early days of Boko Haram to the present.
