Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

Governor Monday Okpebholo has strongly condemned the killing of a young man by yet-to-be-identified gunmen near the main gate of the University of Benin, describing the act as "brazen, cold-blooded murder."

The incident occurred on Sunday evening, according to witnesses. The victim, believed to be in his early twenties, was shot at close range by assailants who then fled the scene. Students and residents of the Ugbowo campus community have expressed shock and fear, noting that the university gate area has seen a spate of violent crimes in recent months.

Governor Okpebholo, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, directed the Commissioner of Police to ensure the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.

“No stone will be left unturned in bringing these killers to justice. We will not allow criminals to turn our state into a killing field,” the governor said.

The Edo State Police Command confirmed the incident and said a manhunt has been launched. The university management is expected to meet with student leaders to discuss security measures.
