Ghanaian authorities have arrested eight Nigerian nationals in a series of intelligence-led raids targeting narcotics trafficking and violent crime across the Upper East Region.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrests on Monday, stating that the eight Nigerians were among 74 suspects taken into custody over the weekend. The operations were conducted in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission and other security agencies, and targeted known criminal hotspots in the region.
Items recovered during the raids included large quantities of cannabis, methamphetamine, weapons, and cash believed to be proceeds of crime. The suspects are being processed and are expected to be charged with drug trafficking, illegal possession of firearms, and related offences.
The Nigerian High Commission in Accra has been notified of the arrests. A consular official told Prime Brief Media that the mission is monitoring the situation and will ensure that the rights of the Nigerian nationals are respected in accordance with Ghanaian law.
The arrests highlight the cross-border dimension of narcotics trafficking in West Africa, where criminal networks exploit porous borders and weak law enforcement coordination.
