Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

An Abuja High Court has ordered the remand of Pastor Amos Isah, the 39-year-old founder of Prophetic Voice of Fire Ministry, over the alleged rape of a 14-year-old female member of his congregation.

The pastor was arraigned on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to an eight-count charge that includes rape under the Child's Rights Act, sexual abuse, and intimidation. Prosecutors told the court that the defendant used his position as a spiritual leader to coerce the minor into sexual acts over several months.

The alleged crimes came to light after the victim confided in a teacher, who alerted child protection authorities. The defendant was arrested following an investigation by the FCT Police Command.

Presiding Judge, Justice Halima Bello, ordered the pastor to be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned the case to a later date for commencement of trial. The prosecution had opposed bail, citing the seriousness of the charges and the risk that the defendant could interfere with witnesses.

Child rights advocates have welcomed the swift judicial action, calling it a signal that clergy members are not above the law.
