Four Nigerian soldiers were injured when an improvised explosive device planted by suspected insurgents detonated along the Damboa–Kumala–Maiduguri supply route in Borno State on Saturday.
Military sources told Prime Brief Media that the troops were on a routine logistics patrol when their vehicle struck the IED. Following the blast, insurgents positioned nearby opened fire in an ambush. The soldiers returned fire and successfully repelled the attack, forcing the assailants to retreat into the bush.
The four injured soldiers were evacuated to a military medical facility, where they are responding to treatment. No deaths were recorded in the incident.
The Damboa–Maiduguri route has long been one of the most dangerous roads in the North-East, with insurgent groups regularly planting mines and staging ambushes against military and civilian convoys. The Defence Headquarters has acknowledged the persistent threat but says the deployment of mine-resistant vehicles and enhanced surveillance is reducing casualties.
