Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has disclosed that he is awaiting the approval of the Federal Government before launching his proposed security outfit, Iru Ekun, which he says will help flush out criminal elements hiding in the forests of the South-West.
Igboho made the disclosure in a video message released on Tuesday. He said the outfit, whose name translates to "The Leopard" in Yoruba, will operate within the law and complement the efforts of existing security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun.
"We are ready. Our men are trained and ready to go into the forests and bring out the criminals. But we want to do this with the approval and cooperation of the Federal Government. We are not a parallel force. We are partners in securing our land," Igboho said.
The activist's announcement comes amid a wave of kidnappings and attacks across the South-West, including the abduction of students and teachers in Oyo State. Afenifere and other Yoruba groups have called for strengthened community security structures. The Federal Government has not publicly responded to Igboho's request.
