Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

The Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI has issued an urgent security warning that remnants of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province may attempt to carry out attacks during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations on Wednesday.

In a statement released on Sunday, the spokesman of the task force, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, said intelligence reports indicate that the insurgents may deploy suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices targeting crowded civilian areas, including prayer grounds, markets, and motor parks in the North-East.

"We have intensified patrols and surveillance in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force and vigilance groups. Additional troops have been deployed to potential flashpoints. We urge residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious persons and objects, and avoid unnecessary movement, especially at night," Lt. Col. Uba said.

The warning comes as Muslims across Nigeria prepare to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, which falls on Wednesday, 27 May. Historically, insurgent groups have exploited festive periods to carry out high-profile attacks aimed at maximising civilian casualties and undermining public confidence.

The military says it is working closely with the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and local community leaders to secure all venues of worship and public gatherings.
