Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

The Nigeria Democratic Congress officially commences its nomination process for the 2027 general elections today, 28 May, with primaries for various elective positions taking place across the country. However, the party has abandoned its earlier plan to use electronic voting, citing time constraints and the imperative of meeting the Independent National Electoral Commission's deadlines.

NDC National Publicity Secretary, in a statement on Wednesday, confirmed that the primaries will be conducted manually, with delegates casting their votes in person across designated venues in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The screening of aspirants, which began on 19 May, continues alongside the primaries and will run until 31 May.

"We had hoped to deploy electronic voting to enhance transparency and efficiency, but the timelines imposed by the electoral calendar made this unfeasible. We have put in place rigorous manual procedures to ensure the integrity of the process," the statement read.

The NDC has positioned itself as a credible third-force platform and has attracted a significant number of aspirants, including for the presidency. The party has zoned its presidential ticket to the South, with Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso seen as the leading figures in the party.
