Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

A raid by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Ikang, Bakassi Local Government Area, turned chaotic on Wednesday when a confrontation with local residents resulted in a young boy being hit by a stray bullet.

The NDLEA Cross River State Commander confirmed the operation, stating that intelligence had linked the area to a significant drug trafficking network. During the raid, operatives arrested two suspected drug dealers and recovered large quantities of illicit substances including cannabis and methamphetamine.

However, the operation was met with violent resistance. A mob reportedly attacked the NDLEA team, attempting to free the suspects. In the ensuing chaos, gunfire was exchanged, and a stray bullet struck a young boy who was not involved in the confrontation.

"The boy was immediately rushed to a hospital and is receiving treatment. We deeply regret that an innocent child was caught in this situation. Our operations are conducted with the utmost care, but the violence of the mob created this tragic outcome," the Commander said.

Community leaders have called for a full investigation into the circumstances of the shooting. The NDLEA said the arrested suspects are in custody and will be charged to court.
