Ibadan, Oyo State – By Prime Brief Media

Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have disrupted a ransom collection operation, engaging in a gun battle with a kidnapping gang and rescuing a victim unharmed in the process.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday. According to him, the gang of six armed men had abducted a victim from Ilowa Village and were holding him in Otefon Village Forest, Atiba Local Government Area. They had demanded a ₦10 million ransom for his release.

Acting on intelligence, police operatives tracked the gang to their hideout. Upon sighting the police, the kidnappers opened fire, leading to a gun battle. One suspect was arrested, while the remaining five fled into the forest with bullet wounds.

"The victim was rescued unharmed and has been reunited with his family. A manhunt is underway for the fleeing suspects. We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons with gunshot wounds to the nearest police station," SP Ojelabi said.

Items recovered from the scene included one locally made pistol, six cartridges, and charms. The command said the arrested suspect is providing useful information to aid the investigation.
