The Defence Headquarters has released an impressive operational scorecard for May, revealing that troops neutralised 317 terrorists and arrested 314 suspects across multiple theatres of operation in coordinated air, land, and maritime campaigns.
Director of Defence Media Operations Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja disclosed the figures at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday. He said the operations also resulted in the rescue of 221 kidnapped victims, the surrender of 18 suspected terrorists and their families, and the recovery of 93 assorted weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition.
"These operations were intelligence-driven and precision-guided. We have significantly degraded the operational capacity of terrorist groups across the North-East, North-West, and North-Central," Onoja said.
In the South-South, troops of Operation Delta Safe destroyed three illegal oil refining sites and recovered large quantities of stolen crude oil and illegally refined diesel. The Navy also arrested several suspects and handed them over to prosecuting agencies.
The Defence Headquarters said the momentum of operations will be sustained and called on citizens to continue to provide credible information to security agencies. The figures come as the nation celebrates Eid-el-Kabir, with the military having warned of possible insurgent attacks during the festive period.
