Former Ogun State Governor and elder statesman, Chief Olusegun Osoba, has made the startling claim that some powerful individuals wish President Bola Tinubu dead because of his administration's economic reforms, particularly the removal of the fuel subsidy and the liberalisation of the foreign exchange market.

Osoba made the allegation on Wednesday while representing President Tinubu at the public presentation of a book in Lagos. He stated that the reforms, while painful in the short term, were essential to rescuing Nigeria from fiscal collapse and that certain vested interests who profited from the old order are determined to see the President fail or worse.

"There are people who want this President dead. They are not happy that the subsidy is gone. They are not happy that the multiple exchange rate racket has been dismantled. These saboteurs are behind some of the insecurity we are seeing today. They want to create chaos so that the reforms will be reversed," Osoba declared.

The former governor, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress, called on Nigerians to support the President and to reject those he described as "enemies of progress." His comments are likely to generate significant controversy and debate, given the gravity of the allegation.
