Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress in Plateau State escalated on Friday as seventeen aspirants who contested the National Assembly primaries formally rejected the results and submitted petitions to the party's Appeal Committee.

Led by Senator Diket Plang, who represents Plateau Central, the aspirants claimed that the primaries were a charade. "In most areas, no credible elections were conducted. Votes were simply allocated to favoured aspirants without any voting taking place. This is a monumental fraud," Plang told journalists after submitting the petition at the party's state secretariat in Jos.

The aggrieved aspirants include candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives. They are demanding the cancellation of the disputed results and the conduct of fresh primaries under close supervision. Plang warned that if the party fails to address their grievances, they may consider other options, including defection.

The APC in Plateau is already divided between factions loyal to various political heavyweights, and the governorship primary, held later, was expected to further test party cohesion. The national leadership has yet to respond to the petitions.
