Senate orders crackdown on bandits flaunting crime cash on TikTok

The All Progressives Congress has completed its governorship nomination exercise across most of the 36 states, with sitting governors overwhelmingly securing the party's return tickets in a display of the power of incumbency and well-managed consensus politics.

Results and affirmations from the primaries, held between Thursday and Friday, show that governors in Benue, Kaduna, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Jigawa, Niger, Zamfara, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, Lagos, and several other states either won direct primaries by landslide margins or were affirmed as sole candidates through voice votes.

In Ogun, Senator Solomon Adeola won the ticket with over 300,000 votes, succeeding Governor Dapo Abiodun who is completing his second term. In Plateau, the primary was keenly contested but the party eventually united behind a consensus candidate. In Ebonyi and Abia, the party produced candidates to challenge the incumbent PDP governors.

The APC postponed its governorship primary in Kwara after eight aspirants withdrew in favour of a consensus candidate backed by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. In Bauchi, logistics issues forced a similar delay.

APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda praised the largely peaceful conduct of the primaries and urged aspirants to accept the outcomes.
