The Ogun State Police Command has traced the recent wave of kidnappings in parts of the state to a Fulani settlement in Yewa North Local Government Area, where victims are reportedly held before ransom negotiations commence.
According to the Vanguard report, the discovery followed weeks of intelligence-led investigations into the abduction of several persons along major highways and rural communities in the Ogun West senatorial district. Police operatives have since raided the settlement and arrested a number of suspects, recovering weapons and other incriminating items.
The State Commissioner of Police, while confirming the development, said the Command is intensifying efforts to dismantle the kidnapping syndicate. He appealed to residents, particularly in border communities, to remain vigilant and to provide credible information to security agencies.
"Investigations have led us to a Fulani settlement in Yewa North where kidnap victims are kept. Several arrests have been made, and we are closing in on other members of the syndicate. We urge the public to report any suspicious movements or persons," the Commissioner said.
The disclosure has heightened tension in Yewa North and surrounding communities, with residents calling for a more permanent security presence to prevent reprisals and further abductions. Community leaders have scheduled an emergency meeting to discuss the development and coordinate with law enforcement.
Kidnapping has become an increasingly frequent occurrence in Ogun State, with several high-profile cases recorded in recent months. The state government has promised to support the police with logistics and community engagement programmes.
