Abuja, FCT – By Prime Brief Media
The Presidency has called for the prosecution of controversial social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, over an alleged fake audio recording of President Bola Tinubu that circulated widely on social media platforms.
Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, in a statement on Wednesday, described the audio as a "malicious fabrication" and said its circulation was a deliberate attempt to create political tension, incite disaffection against the government, and undermine public confidence in the President ahead of the 2027 elections.
"This is not free speech; it is criminal conduct. Those who manufacture and distribute fake content with the intent to destabilise the country must face the full weight of the law. VeryDarkMan should be prosecuted," Onanuga said.
The audio in question, which surfaced over the weekend, purported to capture President Tinubu making controversial remarks. However, digital forensic analysis cited by the Presidency concluded that the recording was generated using artificial intelligence tools. The Presidency has urged the Nigeria Police Force and the National Cybercrime Centre to investigate and take appropriate legal action.
VeryDarkMan, known for his provocative social media content and frequent clashes with public figures, has not responded to the call for his prosecution at the time of this briefing.
